A Tom Archer Series

UNDER FIRE AND FURY

Book 2

Tom Archer never signed up to be a hero. He’s a junior officer trying to do right by his men—hold the line, follow orders, and survive the chaos of war. Cassel is just another name on the map… until it becomes one of the last stands between Hitler’s advancing army and the British evacuation at Dunkirk. But as the pressure mounts and the enemy closes in, every rule of soldiering is put to the test. Archer must navigate betrayal, bloodshed, and the brutal demands of command—discovering that courage isn’t the absence of fear, but what you do when you’re surrounded by it. In the end, it’s not just the bullets or bombs that leave scars—but the choices made when everything is on fire.

Character Introduction

From Chapter One of Under Fire, Under Command

“You’re new to the battalion, aren’t you?” Pembroke asked, his gaze appraising Archer.
“Yes, sir. Only joined the Battalion today.”
“Fresh out of officer training?”
“That’s right, sir. Before that, Reading Grammar School.”

Pembroke’s eyebrows lifted slightly. “T. Archer—was that you who knocked up a hundred and fourteen not out against Eton a few years back?”

Archer blinked, surprised. “Did you hear of that innings, sir?”

Pembroke laughed. “Hear of it? I was bowling for Eton that day. You gave us a proper drubbing, and I’ve never quite forgiven you for it.”

Tom smiled at the memory. The moment passed, and the room fell back into the hush of strategy, maps, and the hard business of war

Book Blurb

The retreat to Dunkirk rages on, and survival is slipping through their fingers.
As German forces close in, 2nd Lieutenant Tom Archer and his exhausted platoon are ordered to hold the line at the French town of Cassel—trapped between suicidal orders and a ruthless enemy.

With bullets tearing through the smoky air and artillery pounding the ground beneath their feet, Archer grapples with the brutal choices every commander must make. The bonds forged in fire are tested as courage and fear clash under relentless pressure.

Hope is fading, and the British Army is crumbling. Archer must stand his ground long enough for the British Expeditionary Force to reach the beaches of Dunkirk and escape to safety—but at what cost? The orders are clear. It may mean sacrificing his men—and himself.

As Dunkirk looms ever closer and the line between salvation and slaughter blurs, Archer must push his men—and himself—beyond their breaking points. Will they find a way to endure the fury of war, or will their courage be swallowed by the tide of defeat?

Under Fire and Fury continues the powerful journey of Tom Archer, capturing the unyielding spirit of those who fight not just for survival, but for the men beside them
